Past Midnight

 

"The Midnight Library" by Matt Haig is complete. It was not what I expected and there are vague analogies with "It's A Wonderful Life". I would recommend it to anyone but I feel anything I say would be a spoiler. It ended a bit sooner than I expected because the last few pages are a preview of another book.

Now I need to find my next book. Maybe I will visit my local library today.

I am still reading "Imajica" by Clive Barker on my Kindle. This is a book I never want to end. When I finish it, I just restart it.

I recently discovered that my American Amazon Author page has a feed from this blog, which you can see here. It only shows on the .com site but not on others. C'est La Vie.

Sort Of Bedazzled

 "The Midnight Library" by Matt Haig has started on normal-length chapters and is a bit more difficult than I expected. It posits that there may be other possible lives, and works on the premise that we can choose paths but not outcomes. Reminds me a bit about the film "Bedazzled" where the guy chooses a perfect life, but the devil finds a loophole to make it more than imperfect.

Clock Strikes Twelve

"The Midnight Library" by Matt Haig is a sort of easy read because none of the chapters has been longer than three pages, so I am fifty pages in after one day. I have just entered the library, but as yet, things are not hugely positive for Nora, although she has a replacement Voltaire.

After The Late Show .....

I'm considering going to bed now (just after eight). Obviously there are times when I'm wide awake but others where I feel I'm wrecked, although compus mentis enough to pen a few words. Part of this is also the attempt to hit fifty posts this month, which I didn't set out to do , but the fact I got another #TenAlbumsInTenDays nomination meant that combined with #AprilSongs (which finishes tomorrow) meant that I posted a few more selections than I expected to.

Wreckless Eric has just been on Marc Riley's 6Music show talking about working with Tom Petersson of Cheap Trick and I remember buying the "Live at Budokan" on yellow vinyl in 1978, and because this am slightly tempted by getting it again. I'm quite surprised that I've never mentioned Wreckless Eric on this blog as I have been a fan since I first heard him in 1977, although I suppose I've rectified that now.

So who do I soundtrack this with?

Well at Budokan they covered The Move's finest rock and roll moment "California Man" which is a little more metal than The Move's version but an excellent band playing an excellent song for you to enjoy.

Maybe it's bed time.

Cheap Trick - Geek Talent - It's Friday and It's Christmas

..and a good start to the morning, listening to Chris Hawkins on 6Music he played a Cheap Trick song "I Want You For Christmas" (a reword of the excellent "I Want You To Want Me") and that cheered me up no end.

This is the first post on my new PC, and was surprised to find that mainstream shops only stock laptops and tablets these days, I don't need much and picked up an HP for £250 from Argos which just plugged into my set up although I could have an HDMI display now but my own screen may have an HDMI connection but I'll check that out this weekend.

Geek Talent

Back to Cheap Trick , "I Want You For Christmas" appeared on "A Very Special Christmas", acharity album, but I always liked Cheap Trick who went against the normal rockers featuring two pretty boys and two geeks in theory capturing or alienating fans who saw looks as important. Their music was always good too and the first album I bought was their "Live At Budokan" on yellow vinyl.

Just thought of an excellent caption for the Cheap Trick, Geek Talent , a brilliant compny who I worked with a few years back, I think it's perfect.
