Today is World Book Night 2013 which has been set to coincide with William Shakepeare's birthday ( incidentally the day he died). I have to thank my mate Mick for pointing this out on the bus to Central Station this morning.
Tonight I shall distribute copies of A Little History of the World by EH Gombrichon Darlington and Newcastle Railway Stations. Will see if people are willibg to engage. I am sure they will be.
It's been a weird and wonderful day, totally relaxed , recovering from various health rigours and have an excellent Christmas tea with chicken , brussels sprouts and all the trimmings prepared by Fiona. The watching , interspersed with each other Sherlock Holmes: Game Of Shadows and my favourite Shakespeare play The Tempest featuring Helen Mirren as a gender swapping Prospera and Russell Brand as a quite excellent Trinculo , you wouldnt expect Brand and Shakespeare to cross , but they do rather well.
Family phonecalls and getting rest from work has made it a most excellent Christmas day.
Looking forward to a comedy night at the Stand with the excellent John Scott and Gavin Webster , followed by Lord Rochester at The Schooner on Saturday. This could be a most excellent week ....
Yesterday I went to see a production of Shakespeare's "The Tempest" at The rebuilt RSC Theatre in Stratford yesterday.
Manga Shakespeare
The theatre is excellent not least for the excellent ventilation that ensures you remain awake for the whole of the performance. As well as that I picked up a manga version of "The Tempest" from the theatre shop, which I am looking forward to perusing as it is my favourite Shakespeare play. Soldiers in the RSC Restaurant
I noticed lots of small model soldier displays around the bar which were there to advertise a "takeover day" on the 4th May. I'm not sure what is happening , may need to take another trip to Stratford on Friday to find out what it's all about
While in Stratford also found a brilliant restaurant Edward Moon, which I would recommend to anyone.
The Avon is High
The Avon was very high at the time but just , lapping at the theatre steps , so no danger while we were there!!
