Difficult - #Oktoberfest #35 - Orange Juice - Rip It Up

This morning I had to replenish my diabetes and blood pressure tablets from my stash, but every cardboard pack seemed absolutely super sealed, requiring the total destruction of the pack to get into it. It's almost as bad as digestive or Weetabix biscuits , you should be able to unwrap them but often have to resort to a knife to break into them. Often you will have a box is in shrink wrapped cellophane that is difficult to remove , then the box itself is designed for you not to get into it followed by the stuff you actually want which is in another from of close wrapped plastic packaging.

I got what I needed and incidentally Gemma Cairney is playing the excellent "Pills" by St Vincent on 6Music so there's a bit of synchronicity for you.

But we are still on #Oktoberfest  (I must make a chart of which drinks have been featured)  so for a change the band name gets it in and we will go for "Rip It Up" by Orange Juice to continue the sequence which is now well over the edge of October hitting #35 which I seriously didn't expect. There's still two days left to go and I can think of two more drink related songs.

I think because of the synchronicity and the subject I am going to include the St Vincent song as well as the Orange Juice one, so you get a double treat.

Tired Not Tired - #Oktoberfest #3 - Drinkin' Wine Spo-Dee-O-Dee - Jerry Lee Lewis

I wasn't going to write anything today, I have to be up early tomorrow to pick up a parcel from The Post Office because they wont leave stuff with my neighbours and I am feeling tired, but my mind has decided to wake up, so my body is tired and my mind is wide awake. This seems to be happening more and more, I just wish my body was as jumping as my mind.

Well the #Oktoberfest song is "Drinkin' Wine Spo-Dee-O-Dee" by Jerry Lee Lewis a favourite of my sadly missed rocker friend Chris and one of the many rock and roll classics he introduced me to. Jerry Lee Lewis AKA The Killer produced a hell of a lot of classics but obviously his hell raising tailed off in to middle of the road country and western and he was never afforded the musical rebirth that Rick Rubin helped Johnny Cash and Neil Diamond with.

Maybe that's not such a bad thing as Jerry Lee has a great back catalogue but I am sure Rick Rubin could have done something with this firecracker..

Yes another short post but we have a third drink related post.

Your Own Inflatable Pub!!

In work today , my mate Jon pointed out this amazing idea , your own inflatable pub? How mad is that. Princes start at a mere four grand for a shed sized one to twenty eight grand for the luxury Hogshead. Drinkstuff are pushing this leisure addition that will enhance and field or unused piece of garden that you have. The website is here.

Of thats not the only thing they have on the site , but if anyone has one of these you have to let us know.

The features of this pub include:

• Can be erected in less than 10 minutes by 4 adults
• Can be installed on any flat surface
• Features 2 fire places
• Internal artwork includes dart board

I mean an inflateable pub with a dart board and fireplaces - What can you say to that?

The Latest Charver Fashion Accessory

It seems these days that the Charver fashion accessory of choice is a twelve or twenty four pack usually of Fosters or Carling , possibly even Strongbow for the more upmarket minded.

On Newcastle Staion this morning and theres a group of them garnishing their Strongbow with acessories from the local twenty four hour Greggs in the form of pasties and sausage rolls!!

Jan's Jansz

Just wandering past Oddbin's today and ran into my good friend Jan, just as I was about to purchase a couple of bottle's of the appropriately named Jansz for a party!! Co-incidence or what!!

Jan's on the right in the left hand photo and the gorgeous wine is described thus on the Oddbin's site:

"The bouquet shows lifted aromas of honeysuckle and citrus fruits from the Tasmanian Chardonnay, with nougat and roasted nuts derived from the lees ageing, while the Pinot Noir contributes delicate strawberry. The palate is well balanced with delicate fruit flavours, creaminess and fresh acid, leading to a dry, light finish." ... much like the lady herself.....

A Short Rant - Mainly against the old and the young

There's a couple of sure signs that you're getting old:
  • You tell people age doesn't matter (it shouldn't)
  • You go into HMV or wherever and you already have evreything you want
  • And lot's of others...

But one thing I never understood is that you can never get past the tiniest old man or lady on a footpath no matter how big the footpath. I finally worked this out. Normal people squeeze to make room to let let you past, while certain members of the older geneation just refuse to give an inch... The other day an old guy gets on the bus and gripped the handrails at the front of the bus and refused to let anyone pass as "he was only going one stop" !!!

Worse than the students who congregate ant the front of busses despte the rest of the bus being empty , for fear they may miss their stop.

And then the people on trains who insist on blocking doorways and aisles while they adjust , pack and unpack their luggage and laptops, totally mental.

..and the people who block doorways while they have a conversion or tab regardless of who wants to get in or out.

I suppose you can include the drivers who hog the middle lane of the motorway driving at forty miles an hour when the road is virtually empty. There's a reason for the inside lane.

Oh and then there's the charvers with puchchairs who seem to think that it's OK to block the suprmarket aisles while they decide on whether to go for the Lambrini or the Concorde , or block the footbath while trying to juggle their Gregg's pastie and light a tab at the same time spilling ash all over the unfortunate kid being pushed around!!!

Grrr.
