Tearing Through The Years

I stopped posting after twelve posts last month, as I thought that was too many for one book, but whatever. 

"The Haçienda: How Not to Run a Club" by Peter Hook has gone from 1983 to 1988 since my last post, eventually ending up with car crashes while on Es in Ibiza while recording "Technique with New Order and getting involved with Sham 69 on a raft. They only finished two songs, "Fine Time" and "Run", but came back to England to finish recording at Peter Gabriel's "Real World" studios.

So here we are in September, and we got to start with the Sex Pistols. Earth, Wind and Fire mash-up.

I am still reading "Imajica" by Clive Barker on my Kindle. This is a book I never want to end. When I finish it, I just restart it, which is good

Haçienda Years And A Shout

 "The Haçienda: How Not to Run a Club" by Peter Hook is still a bit of a slow read, but gives a great indication as to why the club failed. I have just noticed that the chapters are named after the years the club was running with some extra bits.

I am currently up to 1983 with lots of over the seas sounds, plus The Smiths and Happy Mondays playing there and a favourite song played being "Shout" by Lulu.

It is ridiculaous that thi sis my 12th post on this blog this month.

I am still reading "Imajica" by Clive Barker on my Kindle. This is a book I never want to end. When I finish it, I just restart it, which is good

Happy Mondays

"Twenty Four Hour Party People" is the book for the film by the sadly missed Tony Wilson.  Contues and now The Happy Mondays have turned up, and Martin Hannett returns as their producer. Tony Wilson reckons that Shaun Ryder is the greatest lyricist ever, and should be Poet Laureate.

The initial producer for the Mondays was New Order's Bernard Sumner, who Tony Wilson reckons was the greatest since the aforementioned Martin Hannett.

Alan Turing Bletchley Park War Winner

"The Code Book" by Simon Singh is still teaching history, but now it is going into the workings of the Enigma machine. Simon has moved on to Alan Turing and the codebreakers' work at Bletchley Park, with the observation that if the army had known of Turing's homosexuality, we would have probably lost World War II.

At Bletchley Park, the work was important, and sexuality was whatever you were. Remarks were made that the codebreakers, who included porcelain experts and crossword solvers, were scruffy and never shaved, washed or ironed their clothes, but without them, we would have fallen to Fascism. 

Ironic that many of our idiot electorate want to vote in the Fascist Reform/Restore parties today.

History

The Enigma machine was invented by German engineer Arthur Scherbius in 1918. He patented the design and founded a company in Berlin in 1923 to market it for commercial use, before it was adopted and modified for military use by Nazi Germany during World War II.

Also on TV, I am watching "Dark", which is also twisting the melon of my mind with its time jumps and people meeting their past and future selves.
