I Predict A Riot

This is the second post of 2024

"Pies and Prejudice" by Stuart Maconie is excellent, moving slowly across the north and reaching Leeds and a lot about Tony Wilson. The Kaiser Chiefs "I Predict A Riot" has become an anthem for the north.

Two hundred and twenyt pages in I will probably be finished by the end of March

He is also an excellent writer and DJ and worth checking out in print or on the BBC.

I recently discovered that my American Amazon Author page has a feed from this blog which you can see here. It only shows on the .com site but not on others. C'est La Vie.

The music is "I Predict A Riot" by The Kaiser Chiefs.

Cheap Velux Windows

"Mostly Harmless" by Douglas Adams (#5 in a trilogy in five parts that combines wit and intelligent writing) is the final installment and I think the longest one and still enjoyable though not really going anywhere but being continually self-referencing but still enjoyable for all that.

The title has nothing to do with the post, but I thought I would just try to confuse peope.

I am not sure where I will go next but if you follow this blog and I can be bothered to share, then you will find out.

One of the good things about this blog is that it seems to continually unearth interesting pieces that I can then share on  Vocal. Does that make me lazy? Maybe.

Seven Days In seemed to be grinding back down and for the last two months has had three thousand visits each month.

If you want to buy a book of my poetry there is one on the link below.

The music is "Planet of Sound" by The Pixies, cos well why not.

The Total Perspective Vortex

"The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy" by Douglas Adams (a trilogy in five parts that combines wit and intelligent writing) is finished and "The Restaurant At The End Of The Universe Commenced". I am a third if the way through and have rediscovered the Total Perspective Vortex which is the worst torture any sentient being can receive. Zaphod Beeblebrox is subjected to it and comes out as, well, Zaphod.

If you want to know what the TPV is then get yourself a copy of the book.

Seven Days In seemed to be grinding back down to ten visits yesterday and five today.

If you want to buy a book my dark poetry is on the link below.

The music is "Into The Void" by Black Sabbath, sort of appropriate.

Earth v2

"The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy" by Douglas Adams (a trilogy in five parts that combines wit and intelligent writing) is a great read. Earth has been destroyed so the planet builders of Magrathea have been commissioned by the mice (man is only the third most intelligent species on Earth but when you see some politicians you wonder if man is even that high) to create a replacement, a version two.

I've almost finished this first of the five books in the trilogy.

Seven Days In seemed to be grinding back down to its pre-Christmas number of visits but then it hit eight thousand visits in a day, so I haven't a clue what is happening.

If you want to buy a book my dark poetry is on the link below.

The music is the appropriately titled "World Exploding Touch" by The Fat Lady Sings

The Earth Has Been Destroyed

"The Great Gatsby" by F Scott Fitzgerald to me, is very American and reminds me a lot of "The Catcher In The Rye" by JD Salinger. It's not a terrible novel, but not, in my opinion, great either. The characters were annoying and it addressed the rags-to-riches American dream. I was waiting for something interesting to happen and it sort of did, but I doubt I will be revisiting the book.

I am told the film is good so I may try that at some point. I have watched the film and it is far better to watch than to read the book, so if you get the option watch the film, rather than read the book, it really does look stunning.

I wrote a Vocal story called "The Great Catsby" that you can read below.

Also Leslie West of Mountain was a great guitarist and a very big man and I think he had an album or nickname called "The Great Fatsby"

I wanted something fun and interesting to read next so have chosen to revisit "The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy" Douglas Adams trilogy in five parts which combines wit and intelligent writing. It is a fun and clever read and the Earth has just been destroyed less than fifty pages in. This is a book that you should read, and check out the original radio series and TV series and film, and other Douglas Adams books.

Seven Days In is still increasing its visits, over five thousand yesterday and I don't know why.

The music is "Sol Caliente" by Quiet Sun and that is on the player at the moment.

The Million

Seven Days In now has had its millionth visit. These are the latest figures. That was sort of unexpected but two hundred thousand visits have occurred in the last two months, and the blog has been going fifteen years.

Continuing with "How Mumbo Jumbo Conquered The World" by Francis Wheen and expect to finish this soon. It is worrying that charlatans have their hands on the power in the world.

If you want to buy a book my dark poetry is on the link below.

The music is, Spacehog's "To Be A Millionaire".

Highway To Hell

"How Mumbo Jumbo Conquered The World" by Francis Wheen is worrying more as I read it. The evil of Thatcher and Reagan's legacy is destroying our world. The only thing that matters is profit. Everything is designed to line the pockets of financial institutions, corporations and the rich. In the UK Labour is almost indistinguishable from the Conservatives.

There are good people still here but it is getting harder every day for them to have an effect.

This book is nearly twenty years old and things have got much worse. Lying and cheating are the norms the further up the money chain you go.

Seven Days In is still getting a good number of reads so I expect it to hit 100K visits this month and a million since my first post and when that happens I will share it with you.

If you want to buy a book my dark poetry is on the link below.

The music is, appropriately Rick Astley's take on "Highway To Hell" by AC/DC for a bit of fun.

Oh My God

"How Mumbo Jumbo Conquered The World" by Francis Wheen is still on politics but is now on the Creationism vs Darwinism argument. Essentially Creatism is for people who cannot understand scientific concepts. Science always questions itself, religion doesn't. The Bible may have started out with some moral tenets and some of them are still worth following today, but also condones horrible things like slavery, misogyny and murder.

This blog is still getting over three thousand hits a day and this month is now the most visits I have had in a single month, over 80K.  I am now starting to get greedy and need 18K reads before midnight on the 30th to hit 100K in a month. That would need 5K visits a day, and yesterday hit what was probably a high for a day at 3975.

If you want to buy a book my dark poetry is on the link below.

The music is "The Four Horsemen" by Aphrodite's Child featuring Demis Roussos and Vangelis from the album "666"

Up In The Air

"How Mumbo Jumbo Conquered The World" by Francis Wheen started with political and philosophical observations and showed me just how idiotic and evil Thatcher and Reagan's policies were and laid the foundation for the disgusting states of the UK and US economies today. The book has now settled into how Mumbo Jumbo now means far more than solid evidence.

This blog is still getting over three thousand hits a day and this month is now the most visits I have had in a single month, over 71K. While I thought one or two posts a month on my writing were OK to keep it ticking over, this month I will hit double figures. If I don't post then figures drop off. I am not sure how this will benefit me although advertising revenue has started to pick up, I was hoping I could cause some traffic to go to my Vocal site though I have not seen any evidence of that happening yet.

Grammarly is still being annoying.

If you want to buy a book my dark poetry is on the link below.

The music is Kites by Simon Dupree and the Big Sound with a slideshow I made at the Washington Kite Festival in 2010.

The Evening Of The Dumb

This is my most prolific month in 2023 on Seven Days In with five posts (most months have been lucky to get one), but that is probably because the book I am reading now is an easier read than the last one.

Dawn of the Dumb by Charlie Brooker, is nearly twenty years old but could refer to so much that is happening today, the idiocy of the majority of people who believe and act on what the media tell them. The attitude that "Science doesn't know everything" but conspiracy theories and stuff you find on Tiktok are totally believable.

I am l still laughing, this was life fifteen years ago and a lot of the world has got much worse. Lots of other things I thought I had forgotten about have resurfaced, but for me, it is an entertaining read.

The song is by the Bonzo Dog Band's observation on the state of democracy.

2499

This is post number 2499 which I suppose is a sort of milestone, well the next one will be. The visits are still dropping off so still trying to figure out what is going on and still wondering whether to keep this URL. My visits are currently just making double figures though this month there have been over 10K.

I just switched modes on this editor and it changed the font types so apologies if it looks odd.

Still reading World of Tiers by Philip Jose Farmer and it is a little formulaic but I will persist with it as he is a good writer.

The music is "Welcome To The Machine" by Pink Floyd from the album "Wish You Were Here" with an AI-Generated video.

Continual Observation

This is a follow-up to my last post, not really saying anything new, but wondering if this will stimulate visits one more

The visits seem to have dropped off so still trying to figure out what is going on and whether to keep this URL which may be the reason for the sometimes huge spikes in visits

I am still reading World of Tiers by Philip Jose Farmer and it is a little formulaic but I will persist with it as he is a good writer.

A Numerical Experiment

This blog is now a sort of diary and I am not sure if I will hit 20 posts this year. I had not posted in a month and in December 2022 I have about six thousand visits (I wish I got that many reads on my Vocal site which actually does make me money with about fifteen hundred reads per month.

However, when I posted this month for one day I got four thousand visits, so this is a test to see whether dropping a post in here will give me another boost, this month is standing at twelve thousand visits.

I am still reading World of Tiers by Philip Jose Farmer and it is a little formulaic but I will persist with it as he is a good writer.

I recently found out that my American Amazon Author page has a feed from this blog which you can see here. It only shows on the .com site but not others. C'est La Vie.
