Prometheus Taken To Task By Zeus

Mythos by Stephen Fry continues telling us more about what happened in the time of gods and Men. Zeus got mad and killed all humans with a flood (sound familiar) but the two survivors with the help of Gaia repopulate the Earth (well Greek Mediterranean) but Zeus's vindictictiveness least him to take out his ire on Prometheus for giving humans fire, so the cyclops chain Prometheus to a mountain and every day vultures come and feast on his liver, but because he is an immortal, the liver regrows ready to be pecked out and eaten on the next day.

Pandora Opens Her Box

Mythos by Stephen Fry is charging on with new Gods and creatures on every page turned. Zeus and Prometheus create humans but they are all male and very boring. Zeus say "NO FIRE" but Prometheus still gives them fire. Zeus goes mad, but then comes up with a cunning plan. He creates a woman, Pandora, and gives her a box which he says she must never open, although there is nothing of interest in it. Zeus guesses that Pandora's interest will be piquesed and she will be tempted.

She succumbs and open it and releases all the horrors such as death, evny, greed, but the seals it, leavin Hope imprisoned in the box.

Hermes Is Here

Mythos by Stephen Fry is still a great read, with lots happeneing and Stephen makes it very engaging. Zeus decided their should be twelve Gods on Olympus, but Hades was miserable and wouldn't join the party so Zeus was his normal self and raped Maia and brought forth Hermes who was a lot more inteliggent that the postal delivery firm are today.

Pallas Athena Comes

Mythos by Stephen Fry is great fun, although there are no gaps at the end of chapters; all the page space is used, but no matter. I like white space at the end of chapters; it makes you feel like you've reached a marking point. Anyway, Metis tricked Zeus into eating her by turning into a fly while she was pregnant with Athena. Then Zeus started getting horrendous migraines. It was Metis in his head, forging armour for Athena, who was to be the Goddess of War, an intelligent opposite to Ares.

Hephaestus was called, and he split Zeus's head open and out stepped Athena, resplendent in her armour.

Hammer Of The Gods

Mythos by Stephen Fry is remakably readable, but slightly flummoxing me in how to document my progress. It tells us history via Greek myth and while The Muses have appeared, we finaly have Zeus, sixth chold of Kronos and Rhea and th eonly one he didn't eat. In connivance with his mother Zeus kills Kronos and others with lightning bolts and takes over the universe.

Out Of Chaos We Came

Mythos by Stephen Fry sets the scene by telling us a lot about Greek Mythology with maps and family trees and a lot of names of who came from where. The euivalent of The Big Bang is Chaose, and from Chaos came Gaia and Ouraneos and from them the rest of the Greek Gods and and creatures. I am still getting my head back round it, but it is brilliant fun, with lots of sex and violence as you might expect.

"The Haçienda: How Not to Run a Club" by Peter Hook is over. Unbelievably in 2010 Peter opened a new having learned lessons from the Haçienda. Next up is Mythos by Stephen Fry. It is a reread but I have not started it yet.

Gunchester And Calculators

"The Haçienda: How Not to Run a Club" by Peter Hook is over having reached 1997. The club is closed, not by the gun toting gangs but by liquidators with bailiffs and court orders. The calculator is mightier that the gun, though Hooky was blamed by the gangs for closing the club, when they were a big part of the reason.

The Haçienda owed Whitbread a lot of money, and stopped their beer so it was a club with no beer., which also speeded the closure.

Just Gangsters, Gangs And Guns In Manchester

"The Haçienda: How Not to Run a Club" by Peter Hook continues into 1993 and now the situation is guns , drugs, gangs and the Haçienda losing more money. There is very little music happening, New Order helping bankrupt Factory with the Ibiza overrun and Happy Mondays helping out with their drug fuelled recording sessions in Barbados.

"The Haçienda: How Not to Run a Club" by Peter Hook continues into 1989 with the coming of Rave/Baggy/Madchester "culture" and the club being packed every night but still losing money hand over fist and being financed by the success of New Order.

Tearing Through The Years

I stopped posting after twelve posts last month, as I thought that was too many for one book, but whatever. 

"The Haçienda: How Not to Run a Club" by Peter Hook has gone from 1983 to 1988 since my last post, eventually ending up with car crashes while on Es in Ibiza while recording "Technique with New Order and getting involved with Sham 69 on a raft. They only finished two songs, "Fine Time" and "Run", but came back to England to finish recording at Peter Gabriel's "Real World" studios.

So here we are in September, and we got to start with the Sex Pistols. Earth, Wind and Fire mash-up.
