Keep It Dark

Although we are way past the shortest day (on the Winter Solstice) it is still dark in a morning although lighter in an evening. It's 8AM now and coming light but we will soon be implementing daylight saving again (slightly pointless in a 24/7 society) and will be back to even darker mornings.

This is another post that I started a couple of days ago and then have picked up to finish today. The weather has been dreich although last night we had snow again which you can see on my Instagram channel here.

I have been doing a work course in Power BI yesterday and today so not much time to listen to music, but yesterday I picked out a free copy of "True" by Spandau Ballet and wasn't too impressed , but luckily it's only thirty six minutes. "Lifeline" is good , but the rest is dross although the title track was successfully integrated into the excellent "Set Adrift on Memory Bliss" by PM Dawn.

Anyway the song I am going to share is the excellent "Keep It Dark" by fourth phase Genesis from "Abacab" which I believe was titled after it's chord sequence and is one of the many great songs they produced after Peter Gabriel left.

It's light now and it's 8:18am.

I Am Not A Cyclepath

Coming off Nunsmoor Park this porning I was nearly hit by two #twikers (Tw@ Bikers) riding two abreast on the footpath despite their being a widish cycly path are on the road. I could have walked out in front of them but didn't fancy being hit myself and they road past oblivious to me.

The thing about being a cyclist is theat you should be aware of your surroundings or that that latest thing you are oblivious to may be a ten ton lorry. All cyclists I know are sensible and responsible but there are a hell of a lot who think that road based laws don't apply to them.

The humid weather is still draining on me, and I was reading an article on signs of mental exhaustion and these include getting irritated my minor things (twikers) , not sleeping (the ach in my left shoulder is keeping me awake), and a few other things.

I do feel I need some time away from everything, including work, but  the more you don't do things the more it just adds to the pile of things to be done. Rightly or wrongly there are no people who could pick up everything I can do at work, which on the one hand should make you more valuable but the reality is that people gloss over things and don't see you as part of the system, until you don't do what you do.

So the song that comes to mind is Spandau Ballet's gay anthem "Muscle Bound" which was always one of my favourites.

A Short Month

We're almost at the end of February and between February and March for most people is the shortest time between paydays. While I need to be aware of when I get paid these days I'm lucky enough not to be wondering  how I'm going to get through to the next one, though obviously I always did.

Wouldn't it be a great idea if each month we had a short week, a four day week that would give people something else to look forward to. Imagine if the week you got paid was also a four day week. It's just a thought. The thing is if you create a great working environment with things like that, the productivity will improve because people are concentrating more on their work while they are there. Very simplistic I know, but I also know what it's like to be on the journey to work and really not want to walk through the door.

Anyway we're at the end of February now, and although I had a very restful weekend I could still do with another two hours in bed. Still it's time to go to work and get this week underway. For some reason Spandau Ballet's "Musclebound" came to mind, love the relentless chorus and the totally over the top video that I've never actually seen before.

Have a brilliant Monday my friends.
