The Vigenère Cipher, Codes And Pinpricks

"The Code Book" by Simon Singh combines coding cyphers and historical events. The book is going through various cyphers and codes, including the almost unbreakable Vigenère cipher which Charles Babbage (Difference Engine guy) finally cracked, but didn't publish either because he was stopped by the British Military, or, like with many other things, he just couldn't be bothered, so Frederick Kasiski got the credit.

Letters in the nineteenth century cost a shilling to send a hundred miles, but newspapers were free, so people put pinpricks under letters on the front page and sent newspapers instead.

Still reading "Imajica" by Clive Barker on my Kindle. This is a book I never want to end. When I finish it, I just restart it.

I recently discovered that my American Amazon Author page has a feed from this blog, which you can see here. It only shows on the .com site but not on others. C'est la vie.

The music is "Sunday Papers" by Joe Jackson
