Robots And Engineers And Carl Sagan

"Pale Blue Dot" by Carl Sagan is getting more interesting by the page. While astronauts and money men are credited, the real heroes of the Voyager 1 and II missions are the engineers. Lauunched in the seventies and still going. Here is a current link  from NASA that tells us where they are.

"The Midnight Library" by Matt Haig is on my shelf as the next hard copy read.

I have resumed "Imajica" by Clive Barker on my Kindle. This is a book I never want to end. When I finish it, I just restart it.

Jupiter And Saturn And Carl Sagan

"Pale Blue Dot" by Carl Sagan is engrossing, telling the stories of the Voyager ships sending back information about Saturn, Jupiter, Neptune and Uranus. Sagan points out that these are unmanned ships and worries about the term manned as these projects involved women as well and the word crewed could be miscontrued if spoken.

I wondered when this was published and it was 1994, well before mobile devices became available properly to the world.

"The Midnight Library" by Matt Haig is on my shelf as the next hard copy read.

Space Is Deep

"Pale Blue Dot" by Carl Sagan is high concept but an excellent read. It skirts the religion/science battle very well and, of course, science wins. I am over a fifth of the way through just going through the description of what aliens would see in orbit above the Earth.

"The Midnight Library" by Matt Haig is on my shelf as the next hard copy read.

I have resumed "Imajica" by Clive Barker on my Kindle. This is a book I never want to end. When I finish it, I just restart it.

Pale Blue Dot

"Luster" by Raven Leilani is not my thing, but it is an excellent read and I finished it before going on holiday. I would recommend this book to anyone and it is a remarkably easy read although explicit in some sections. I will check out more of her work, I am sure.

This week I picked up two books "Pale Blue Dot" by Carl Sagan from Barter Books and "The Midnight Library" by Matt Haig which has been on my radar for too long, but my first on will be "Pale Blue Dot" and twenty pages in it has been on board with dated space achievement list and the notes on how they turned the Voyager craft at the edge of the solar system to photograph Earth which was a pale blue dot.

Apparently, an object is likely to show as more blue the further away from it that we are because blue dissipates into the atmosphere most easily.

I have resumed "Imajica" by Clive Barker on my Kindle. This is a book I never want to end. When I finish it I just restart it.

Lustrous

"Luster" by Raven Leilani is not my thing, but it is an excellent read and in a week I am more than halfway through so I would recommend this to anyone who reads. It concerns a young black artist who takes up with an older white couple although they seldom meet together. The girl is not a hero or villain but just trying to get through life

I have resumed "Imajica" by Clive Barker on my Kindle. This is a book I never want to end. When I finish it I just restart it.

Luster By Raven Leilani

My latest book is "Luster" by Raven Leilani. Like "The Blood Crows" by Simon Scarrow It is not my thing but carries recommendations from Zadie Smith and Barack Obama and it is another community library exchange and it was pitted against something by Tiger Woods. It concerns a young black artist who takes up with an old white coup, and I read forty pages in the first dip in so it is a rather excellent read so far.

I have resumed "Imajica" by Clive Barker on my Kindle. This is a book I never want to end. When I finish it I just restart it.

Back To Barker

"The Blood Crows" by Simon Scarrow is finished and it was a good read but not my thing, so it will go back to the lending/exchange library. Macro and Cato made it out and will be in the next book whatever that may be.

"The King Of Elfland's Daughter" by Lord Dunsany is also complete and it is a truly wonderful read. A brilliant fantasy.

I am not sure what will be next but I have resumed "Imajica" by Clive Barker on my Kindle. This is a book I never want to end and when I finish it I just restart it.

Showdown In Britannia

"The Blood Crows" by Simon Scarrow, we have a showdown between Quertus and Cato to see who is the Top Dog in the fort while awaiting the next attack from Caractacus.

"The King Of Elfland's Daughter" by Lord Dunsany is full of beautiful language and seems to be moving toward Lirazel being reunited with her son Orion but on Earth which upsets her father the king.

Getting Tight In Britannia And Lirazel Is Here

"The Blood Crows" by Simon Scarrow, is getting a lot tighter for Cato, Macro, and company as Caractacus tightens the screw and threatens to just kill everybody and level the Roman Fort. Eighty pages to go and I don't know how this will pan out.

"The King Of Elfland's Daughter" by Lord Dunsany is full of beautiful language and seems to be moving toward Lirazel being reunited with her son Orion.

Fort Apache, Britannia Away With The Trolls

"The Blood Crows"
by Simon Scarrow, is turning into Fort Apache, and I don't know what the outcome is but two-thirds of the way through and I am not sure if Macro and Cato will still be there when I hit the last page.

"The King Of Elfland's Daughter" by Lord Dunsany is still rather excellent. At the moment it's all about Trolls coming to the human world from Elfland and noticing time differentials, though I am not to happy with the Unicorn Hunt.

More Blood And More Magic

"The Blood Crows" by Simon Scarrow, is an excellent read, but it almost mirrors what happened in the USA in trying to deal with a selfish violent narcissist. However, the picture may be a lot bigger than I have seen so far stretching back to Marco and Cato's appointment in Rome. As usual more violence and blood.

"The King Of Elfland's Daughter" by Lord Dunsany is still rather excellent Orion, son of Lirazel and Alveric looks like he is going to leave the land of men and go to Elfland, as he is half-elf. This is still drifting toward Elfland but Orion has not got there yet.

This Is Getting More Disturbing By The Page

"The Blood Crows" by Simon Scarrow, is getting into very disturbing territory, extremely violent and scary but still an excellent read. Slipping into how good men can be cowed and quieted when everyone falls in line with the violent bully, but there may be some hope. I will let you know.

"The King Of Elfland's Daughter" by Lord Dunsany is still rather excellent Orion, son of Lirazel and Alveric looks like he is going to leave the land of men and go to Elfland, as he is half-elf.

Blood And Cruel Murder

"The Blood Crows" by Simon Scarrow, has now got me hooked, it is not my thing , it gets more bloodthirsty by the page and the body count keeps going up, but it is keeping my attention going.

"The King Of Elfland's Daughter" by Lord Dunsany is still rather excellent although I found the hunting and killing of the unicorn by Orion quite disturbing. Orion is Lirazel's son and it looks like he will find Elfland once more after his father lost it.

Rome And Elfland

"The Blood Crows" by Simon Scarrow, has now got me hooked, it is not my thing , but I did like Britannia with David Morrisey and McKenzie Crook, and it is quite bloodthirsty so I will finish it but unlikely to follow up the series, but if you like this sort of thing then definitely give it a try.

"The King Of Elfland's Daughter" by Lord Dunsany is a different kettle of fish. I love it although some of the language is a little flowery and repetitive. A wonderful story of love and loss with heaps of magic and fantasy, and some extreme violence. It is also a lot broader than I was originally expecting but is still a great read.

So this is my kick-off post for 2025
